Where's your turnstile gone.
Arriving at a sunny Faraday road I was full of optimism. I had previously been in a rather poor mood as I was unable to go to Port Vale, but seizing the opportunity I looked for a groundhop. This mood was quickly dampened as I was dropped off outside there supporters bar to receive a picture of Falmer, via text, from Ben (from Benhallgroundhopping). A ground I really want to visit. I looked for an entrance only to find dis used turnstiles. Wandering into the main entrance to the social club you are met with a whiteboard directing you where to go. I wandered along the hallway, past the changing room, to be met with a man looking puzzled as t what I was doing. He was setting up the entrance stall. 15 minutes before kick off. I was quizzed as to what I was doing and upon saying I was here for the football he told me that he wasn't ready. I went and stood in the corner and waited for some other people to start queuing. I walked over to ask how much a programme was and he wouldn't say. I asked as being 15 I was entitled to free entry so thought I would pay at least some fee. I was told that I wouldn't be allowed in unless accompanied by someone aged 16 or above (I think). Needless to say I was annoyed as If someone that I sit next to in school had come along I could have got in. Rules are rules, however.
The ground was in very good condition and is the best in their league. It isn't hard though when you compare it to the field in Finchampstead and Woodley. There is only one stand and is rather imaginative in it's name. The stand. It appears to run the majority of the pitch but is actually third. For some reason the roof carries on 15 meters each way over the tunnel one end and emptiness the middle. It's a newish stand with no apparent weathering and nice shiny seats. It's of a fair size with around 6 rows, press area and armrests for the directors (if they have any) at the back of the stand is a gap in the middle that goes out to the food area. The remaining 3 sides are hard standing which have been re-tarmacked in the not to distant past. The perimeter walls of the pitch is also rather new. There are floodlights in each corner. Two along the other side and four more on the roof of the stand.
The game itself was a top v bottom encounter that saw all of Newbury's goals in the first half. Didcot's reserves looked consigned to a lower league next season with their goal coming after we had left.
