Many a trip have gone by where I've seen that USG are playing, but we've always ended up at another game. This time, however, there wasn't much else on, so we made a return visit (for Phil) to a ground that is often of the attention of groundhoppers. Indeed, at this game we saw a plethora of people wandering around to take snaps. On his last visit to the ground Phil had wrote that:
'don't set your sights too high. The modern world has not been kind to this museum piece. The end terraces have all but disappeared behind trees and overgrowth (Cathkin Park this is not) and the newly added perimeter fencing sits uncomfortably with the historic surrounds (advertising boards render the first dozen or so steps unusable). The main stand, whilst impressive from the outside, is a little bland inside.'
While I agree to an extent with these comments, I'd thought the club had done well with what they've got - think a well kept Cathkin Park. Certainly the facade of the main stand is up there with the best. Inside, as well, I thought the ground had plenty going for it, but I guess that's personal tastes!
The game, I've mostly forgotten, but being third division belgium there was plenty of pyrotechnics throughout.
