SK Merelbeke 0-1 SK Wichelen
Zwijnaardsesteenweg
28/12/13
Att: ~20
Again, with the choice of one game, we made our way over the border, this time to East Flanders. Merelbeke play across the river from the Ghelemco Arena, so close that if you take a wrong turn like Phil you end up looking at it. Parking was easy enough, situated on the mud patch behind one goal.
The ground is very basic, unsurprising given that this is the lowest level of football in Belgium (Step 8). Either end were small paths, with grassing behind. One side, which house the dugouts, back onto a small stream, while the other side is slightly more developed. Straddling half way is the small clubhouse/changing room block. Next to this a small covered terrace. The ground is completed by a number of small floodlights.
The game will be be remembered purely because we have no idea how it went ahead. You could've probably counted the number of blades of grass on one hand, with puddles all over. Because of this, the game was devoid of much skill, as the ball and players became stuck in the mud. The only goal game in the first half, and as usual I missed it.
