San Francisco Giants 2-10 LA Dodgers
AT & T Park
5th July 2013
Att 41,911
AT&T Park is the impressive 41,915 capacity home of the current World Series Champion San Francisco Giants that opened in 2000. Inside and out it has been built to a high specification and it's location over looking the water towards Oakland (note you cannot see either Bridge or Alcatraz) means you have a great view. Access is impressive as is the 'out back' space, something that often lets these new stadiums down. Couple of points you should note if visiting; the top tier is very steep and, even in early July, it can get cold. The wind was blowing so much we invested in a Giants blanket to keep us warm. Hard to believe the day before we got burnt out in the bleachers at neighbouring Oakland!
This game was over almost before it started. A 6 run third innings left the Dodgers 8-1 up (and Matt Cain back in the dugout) and with Ryu pitching his second great start that we have seen this trip the result was never in doubt.
As ever, we stayed until the very last ball had been pitched. However, both the locals (no doubt fed up with the performance and the current poor run of form the team is on) and the travelling LA fans (er well because they are from LA and they always do) left early leaving us in very sparsely populated crowd. This resulted in a really funny sight. The hundreds and hundreds of seagulls gathering in the skies and on the roof of the stands (almost as if they were trained) must have assumed that the sight of everyone leaving meant that proceeding were over and they could feast on the significant scraps. Cue screams from the remaining few fans as they flew over emptying their bowels and dive bombing into the seats. Well I thought it was funny!
