SC Veendam - Gjaltema Stadion aan De Langeleegte
Veendam 0-1 Zwolle 18-11-11
Not much you can do.
When winter arrives and Mother Nature does her worse, there's not much you can do about it as a groundhopper. The internet and immediate information culture helps. Gone are the days of ringing around clubs to find a game on! But we are still all vulnerable to last minute changes.
Veendam is 3 hours drive from the PDM Dutch HQ, four on a Friday afternoon, so there is very little you can do when you arrive to see the town under a blanket of fog.
It wasn't dense and, as you can se from the photos, did not ruin the view of the game (well not if you were sat along the side - the delay between Zwolle scoring and their fans cheering (at the opposite end of the ground) was amusing!), but it did mean I couldn't get a good view of all the stands.
Fear not, an overnight stay and a clear morning meant I could return.
The ground is one of the better ones in the Juplier league, although the town is very small and nighlife limited.
Game was enjoyable without being thrilling. Zwolle are the leaders and the real deal, but I said that last year before the March implosion.
PDM quiz of the day.......any ideas why the fine for going on the pitch is 453.78 Euro (answer after photo's)

Quiz Answer........Our investigation revelaed that 453.78 Euro is equivalent to 1,000 Guilders. For our younger viewers (and Webmaster Dan) the Guilder was the Dutch currency before the Euro!!!
