Lommel 2-1 FC Eindhoven
Pre Season Friendly
Sportpark Strijp (RKVV Brabantia)
10 July 2014
If you have never been to Eindhoven I thoroughly recommend it. I'm not sure if, as a resident of Breda, it is politically correct to say this, but it is one of my favourite Dutch cities. One of the reasons for that is that the city is very high tech, modern and not afraid to push the boundaries; especially when it comes to architecture. For some people that is a bad thing, as modern architecture is something you either like or you don't. But what you cannot deny is that Eindhoven, probably on the back of the massive influence of the Phillips company, is like no other city.
And so to the Sportpark Strijp home of RKVV Brabantia, near the flying saucer building that was once the science museum. Normally I give an opinion on grounds, but for once I won't. Look at the photos and form your own opinion. But whether you like it or hate it I guarantee you one thing, you will never forget it.
The game between these 'friends across the border' was technically a home game for the Belgian side. For the first time this season I saw a competitive balanced game which Lommel just about deserved to shade. It was good to be a true neutral for the game. Miss NAC and I have a soft spot for Lommel (which is a nice ground to visit) and following the events of last season of Krommedijk I had decided to 'adopt' FCE to satisfy my Friday night Jupiler League fix.
The first goal was of high quality. It was great to see a close game and even better to contrast the difference between the two teams style of play that very much mirror the styles of the two leagues.
And all for the princely sum of 2 Euro!
