SK Rapid Leest 1-4 KV Mechelen
Pre Season Friendly

Whilst England's dismal world cup was being bought to it's all too predictable early conclusion with a snore-athon against Costa Rica, I decided to take in my first pre season friendly for the 2014-15 season. Regular football watchers will know that you really take a chance with any friendly as the whole match can depend on the attitude of the senior side towards the game. This was the case here where Pro League side KV Mechelen spluttered to an unconvincing 4-1 win over their provincial neighbours, with two goals in the last 5 minutes. Leest in fact held a 1-0 half time lead, when, not unusually, the visitors changed their entire side. What was a little unusual was that the hosts did the same, including a change to white shirts.
The ground was pleasant enough, although when there is a good size crowd and warm sunshine, most grounds always look that bit better. I will remember it though for the dodgiest looking bridge in one corner that you needed to cross to get to the opposite long side.
This, however, was the pure definition of pre season friendly.
