Radford 6-2 Gedling MW
Selhurst Street
Att: Approx 40
29/11/14
With the final preparations for our forthcoming jaunt to Poland needing to be made, Liam and I thought it best to carry them out at a football game! A look down the fixture list showed that Radford were at home so we made the decision to once again make the short walk up. This was, again, a decision that we were glad we made. Getting to the ground is easy, from Halls it's a straight walk up the road for 15 minutes and hang a left. The ground is hidden behind a row of shops, and nestled between houses. Certainly from the far end it provides your stereotypical english non-league view.
Entrance to the ground is in one corner, and leads onto the most developed end. This has the clubhouse/changing room complex nestled behind the goal. To one side of this is a stand running from the tunnel into the corner. It's 3 rows high, unfortunately the amount of pillars means the view is somewhat obscured. Following the pitch round you get to the well-stocked club shop and a refreshment hut. The other side of this is a small roof over the hardstanding which surrounds the rest of the ground, save for a similar covered area on the opposite side. Another thing we noted that had become obvious in seeing the ground properly in daylight is how good the floodlights were, being of the 'proper' variety, as opposed to your bog-standard versions.
In regards to the game, my recent streak was maintained. From the early minutes I said Radford would win the game comfortably, but Gedling shot themselves in the foot a bit. The floodgates only really began to open when the visiting keeper was sent off mid-way through the first half. Take nothing away from Radford, however, as some of the football they played was sublime. I know we said this last time, but it just confirmed that our EMCL team of choice will indeed be Radford.
