This game came as a late decision in that we only knew the fixture was being played around 2 hours before we turned up. There were other games that we could have gone to, but the decision was made simply because we liked saying Rumst. Try it. Ok now you look silly as sitting there saying Rumst, bet you even got a few odd looks should you be sat in a room with other people. But you want to say it again, don't you? Joking aside, it also seemed a pretty good ground considering the club ply their trade in 4th provincial, and it wasn't too far away. Despite this we were once again reduced in numbers as Matthew backed out at the last minute, and he claims to be a groundhopper!
Ultimately this turned out to be a fine example of Google doesn't reveal all in that the ground exceeded our expectation and was more developed than anticipated. After slight confusion as to where to go we parked on the small road backing onto the ground and made our way to the open gate in the corner, where a man sat at a lipton ice tea table took peoples admission money. From here you walked onto the newest part of the ground, so new in fact, that it wasn't yet complete. This was a clubhouse with three steps of terracing in front. I didn't really go inside, but from what Phil could work out, they've put a shell around the old clubhouse and extended it. Next to this is a small changing room complex. The rest of the ground is falling apart and in need of some TLC. One end is a small two stepped terrace with a rundown building behind. Along the other side was a small covered stand, with seating for around a hundred. The concrete in front was crumbling, while the roof had a series of holes. The rest of the ground was overgrown terracing with some benches placed every now and again. I know some of you will be reading this and thinking that the ground is unremarkable, but I simply love grounds like this and would happily watch football at them every other week.
The game wasn't anything special, both plying their trade in lowest leagues in the Antwerp province, although this was the second matchday in this group in the Antwerp Provincial Cup. The away team lost a friendly the day before 15-0. Unsurprisingly, with this in mind, the home team would go on to win the game quite comfortably. This could be put down, in some part, to the visiting goal keeper looking rather shaky. I would love to be able to report in greater detail, but we have been to two more games today, and I didn't take any notes/can't find a match report to re jog my memory. Instead I shall leave you with the photos I took.
