Jong Feyenoord Excelsior 6-2 Jong NAC
Beloften League Div B
17 September 2013
Varkenoord
Varkenoord is situated just over the road to the south of De Kuip and is home to the Feyenoord/Excelsior academy as well as the amateur side SC Feyenoord (who did play in Zondag Hoofdklaase but were forced to drop 4 tiers to Vierde Klasse when they switched from being a Sunday team).
Built in 1949, it is clearly not as modern as it's counterpart in Eindhoven but it is still very impressive. It has a number of grass, kunstgrass and all weather pitches, many of which are floodlight. There are several offices, study rooms, a cantine, medical rooms, fitness room and video room. All in all everything you would expect to be there supporting one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Veld 1 is where tonight's game was and with its 1,400 seat stand and wooden terracing along one side it is every bit as good as many amateur grounds I have been to.
The game itself was a disappointment the day after the miracle in Kerkrade. A strong NAC side started well, but as the first half went on the hosts took command and lead 2-0 at the break with 2 well worked goals. Within 15 mins of the 2nd half, NAC were level thanks to two goals from Alex Schalk (if he tells you he meant the second he is lying :-) ). The game was reasonably even, until we had a bout of deja vue. For the second week running we witnessed a side score twice, direct from a floated free kicks creeping in the back post. After this, there was only going to be one winner and the hosts rounded off an action packed second half with two late goals.
