Complex Sportif
1 May 2013
Belgium Division 3B
There is little doubt that the predominantly Flemish Division 3A has larger clubs, grounds and support than Division 3B. But size does not always mean it is better. Located next to the old abattoir the ramshackled Complex Sportif is every bit as atmospheric as it's larger counterparts to the north. Grass, bits of steps concrete paths and stone walkways go into making this wonderful mix of a stadium. There was even a couple of war monuments for fallen supporters behind one goal.
Whilst the surrounds could do with a little TLC, the pitch could do with a total overhaul, it really was dreadful.
The match, between two top half teams, never got going and had a real end of season flavour to it, not helped by an over zealous referee.
But the stars of the afternoon was the quirkiness of the people; from the lady stood by the players entrance to the field knitting, the four or so 'ultras' with a massive drum they fortunately rarely banged and the worse flares I have seen, to the crazy old man stood by the 'behind the goal' bar shouting at the birds.
Yep, May-day in Wallonia and I loved every minute of it!!!
