Gateshead International Stadium
Gateshead FC/Gateshead Thunder RLFC
Capacity: 11,500
Non Matchday
Date of Visit: 30/08/12
En-route to: Newcastle
Impression: White elephant springs to mind with this one, as it's way too big for both tenants. Last year the heed averaged 843, their largest attendances since promotion into the conference. Not surprising given that St James Park is clearly visible from the turnstiles. Redeveloped in 2010 the ground is a decent athletics venue. Behind each end are sweeping uncovered seated stands. They are rather shallow so may not provide the best of views. To the right of where we got our photos was the recently covered east stand which boasts a capacity of 4,044. The Tyne and Wear stand was to the left. This was steep and is slightly smaller than the stand opposite.
