Formally the Fleet Centre, this 20k arena is home to the Bruins and Celtics, two of the most famous names in their respective sports. Situated on top of North Station it opened in 1995 replacing the much loved, but desparately out dated, Boston Gardens that was next door. The whole surrounding area has been cleared, and the originally elevated metro sent under-ground. The sports bars along causeway (that used to be packed before during and after events at the old and new Gardens) have gone....as too, I suspect, that special atmosphere the area had. It has been 17 years since I visited the Old Gardens, and 15 the new, and to be honest I thought I had gone to the wrong place. The chances are that the changes have taken place gradually over that time, but to me, I can't help thinking that Boston has lost something special. Still, Fenway remains!!
