Stekene is one of the towns that makes up the muncipality of Stekene, in the region of East Flanders in the north of Belgium. According to wikipedia it considers itself an oasis of green amongst the industrialisation of nearby Antwerp, and the rest of Flanders. The particular Oasis of green that interested is located to the north of the town, next to the E34 motorway. It isn't an obvious place to 'celebrate' your 100th foreign football ground, but with little else on and fancying a game of football (coincidently also my 100th football game of the season).
The ground is a fairly decent being pitch number 1, of 4. Tucked away, just off the main road, it's a complex that is in the midst of transition. Sand, temporary changing rooms and bricks are scattered around with an extension to the club house under-way. This clubhouse, even in its slightly incomplete state, is one of the best I've seen at this level. Running the full length of one end it has a large bar, big screen and plenty of seating. There's little more you can ask for. Just before the half way line on one side is a small covered terrace. This looks temporary, made out of scaffolding and with a white fabric wrapped around. The far end is a customary wall of advertisement as seen at many grounds in Belgium. The final side is a sandy path, with players training on the various pitches wandering up and down throughout.
The game wasn't a classic, with it taking until the 87/88th minute for the visitors to finally open the season. The main highlight coming mid-way through the second half when the visiting goal keeper went walkabouts, dribbling past numerous players until about the halfway line.
