Excelsior Virton 1-1 Oudenaarde
Stade Yven Georges (Att 1,168)
17 May 2012
Rude Not to
17 May 2012 was a public holiday in the lowlands, and, with a flight out of Brussels airport the following morning, the League 2/3 playoffs provided a great opportunity to visit the Belgian ground furthest from PDM Dutch HQ.
Stade Yvan Georges is a relatively modern ground that has clearly been built up in stages to meet the growth of the club on the pitch.
An enjoyable first leg game. Oudenaarde won the second leg 4-0 before beating La Louviere on penalties after two 0-0 draws. Virton, who have recently experienced the second division, will have to wait for another year, but, off the pitch ,are more than ready for the step up.
Couple of unusual things from the day;
1) No food in the ground anywhere.....I was hungry after that drive!
2) The home fans were joined by a group of Mouscroen fans...anyone who knows why please contact us and let us know!
So, if you are passing, don't hesistate to stop. Problem is, you are unlikely to ever be passing!
