Ground Switching
About the only good thing about supporting a team that bumbled around the Ryman/Diadora/Isthmian leagues for a decade was that you got to see your team play on alot of different grounds (last count I have seen them play at 250). I stand corrected, but, despite taking more fans away than most clubs got in a season at home, I can't remember one occaision when we had to play at an alternative venue. I always thought it a shame that AFC Wimbledon had many ground switches pulled; I think they played serveral teams at Bromley's ground because the certain home team's own grounds were unsuitable.
And the same is true for KFC Uerdingen. In support terms the club is way too big for the 5th tier and they frequently have to put up with ground switches. This was one such occaision as, due to police requirements, the game was played on a Friday evening. With Jahn's home ground not floodlit, they were forced to move the game to neighbouring VFB Lohberg who, ironically, play in the same regional league as Jahn's reserve team.
And so stewards, police, beer stalls, bbq's and some very dodgy sloping toilets were bought in to cope with the unusually large numbers of travelling fans. Segregation tape was errected to keep the masses apart (sarcasm) and the whole game passed off without incident. To be honest, it all looked like a lot of fuss over nothing....but maybe that is because it worked.
Still, based on this performance this won't be an issue for long. 6 wins out of 7, and having witnessed the away games with the teams currently 4th and 7th, they look too good for this league. To be honest, the only thing that looks like stopping them is complacency (they went to sleep in this game and almost blew it).
So I guess, if they do home in on promotion, expect more ground switches.
PS; following on from Dan's blog on his trip to Potters Bar Wednesday, I can confirm....it is starting to get cold!!
