Racing Schaerbeek 1-0 Stade Bierbeek
30 September 2012
Crossing Stadium (Stade Renan)
100 Up!
My 100th Belgian ground and a trip to one of the most famous. Now totally rebuilt, complete with 3g pitch, it is home to both Racing Scaerbeek and Crossing Schaerbeek Evere. The famous tenants, Royal Crossing Club Schaerbeek now play in Elewijt after a merger.
The team and fans of Racing are nearly all from the local Turkish/Moroccan Community, meaning a real southern European atmosphere, and a great exhibition of tricks, flicks and bicycle kicks from the home side. Unfortunately it also meant no beer was for sale, so if you like a Maes with your footie you need to see Crossing play there.
Very little remains of the old stadium. The large stand behind one goal still has the original frame and rear, and the wall from behind the side terrace still stands. But the rest of this great old ground (including the wonderful open terrace) is now consigned to history.
Couple of links to what it looked like when closed down before being rebuilt
