Nieuw Lekkerland 0-2 ASWH
Sportpark Excelsior
15 September 2012
Hoofdklasse Zaterdag B
Quintessentially Dutch
I'm not sure that Sportpark Excelsior (the relatively new home of Nieuw Leekerland) could be more Dutch. Sited across the fields from Kinderdijk (a toruist magnet comprising the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands), the single stand, three sides of paths, artificial pitch and surrounding training and junior pitches encompasses everything of a typical amateur club's facilities.
And being Dutch it also has to have some unusual features and this is no different. Grass on the roof of the stand (well, there is none on the pitch) and a dove cage in one corner advertising doves for rent. They were let out just before kick off. I have absolutely no idea why.
ASWH made really hard work of winning a game they should have sewn up by half time. Two penalties (the second just before the end) was enough.
