Jupiler League Play Offs
With Feyenoord away scheduled for the following day there was never any chance that Miss NAC was going to agree to go on the bus combi to Deventer for this play off second leg. Two bus trips in a season maybe, but in a weekend, never! So when I heard that the home end was members only, it looked like I would be watching the game from the comfort of my living room. Step in Carlos, an Eagles fan from twitter, who offered to get me a couple of seats. That's what's great about football fans.
After hot-footing it over from Hendrick where we had seen ASWH beat Xerzes 4-2 to secure a play off game we were finally able to revisit the Eagle's Nest, complete with camera this time. I was keen to do this quirky little ground justice, unlike the last attempt with my phone's camera.
Set in houses and with four 'old-style' floodlights, you could be forgiven for thinking you were anywhere other than Holland. Cars circle looking for parking places and fans stream to the ground on foot, this is not the land of the traditional Dutch box stadium. Nor is it inside, with the home end behind the goal resembling a smaller version of the Rat's B-Side, the fans generate a really good atmosphere from start to finish. The side stand we were in looks like it is seats botled onto terracing, but the leg room is good and, with the away fans next to you behind the one-way mirror and the home fans in good voice to the right, you really felt like you were at an important match.
The score line was a little harsh on Dordrecht, who were full value for being level at half time. In fact, they had missed the best chance of the half when Rijsdijk shot over from close range after about 10 mins. The Eagles were stronger in the second half, and started to pen the visitors back more and more. To be honest it was no great surprise when they took the lead in 76th minute even if the penalty looked a little soft. Two more goals in the 85th and 86th minutes (the last one of quality) put a gloss on the score. The right team won, but they weren't three goals better.
The Eagles move on to play VVV in the next round and I wish them luck. It would be great to see them in the Ere Divisie, and if it happens, it will definately be one of the first games I look out for when NAC release their fixtures.
And so the Sheepheads' season comes to an end. One that promised alot before the winter break fell away dramatically after it. But we will retun to the west side next season, with our season tickets in hand as, whatever team is put out on the pitch, life is never dull at Krommedijk.
