Fresno Grizzlies 6-4 Salt Lake Bees
Pacific Coast League
Chuckchansi Park
30 June 2013
Ok, who from the Jupiler League has been talking to the Fresno Grizzlies about announcing attendances? The delightful Chuckchansi Park holds 12,500 and, according to the official stats, the attendance at this game was 5,590. Er no it wasn't. Try 559, at a push! But that isn't a criticism of the local fans staying away. To be honest, if it wasn't for the fact I had driven 3 hours and already had tickets I would have opted for the hotel pool. It was hot, brutally hot. Officially 107 degrees at first pitch but in the sun it was more. We lasted about 1.5 innings in our seats in row one, before accepting the offer to move back into the shade, although we declined the offer to go to the outfield bleachers to be hosed down by the local mascot!
Fair play to the players, who must have been cooking in their uniforms!
The stadium was opened in 2002 and is located in downtown Fresno. It's a good looking stadium with all the features we come to expect from this standard of baseball. It is a shame more people weren't there as it didn't feel like we were at a proper game, but as I said, I really don't blame the locals.
