Folkestone Invicta 1-1 Hungerford
Cheriton Road
02/11/13
Att: 242
As we stood huddled under the roof as the mid-game monsoon appeared I couldn't help but thing "why on earth haven't we been here before." It's a while away from home, I'll admit, but with relatives living nearby and, of course, our frequent use of the Channel Tunnel we've had plenty of opportunities. Pulling into the car park you'd be forgiven for thinking the ground wasn't up to much, with no a lot visible. Walking through the turnstile is another matter.
Behind either goal are fair sized terraces. At one end is a decent sized covered terrace, with wooden roof supports. The other end is a larger uncovered terrace, with black and yellow barriers at the rear. Along the side you enter is another decent sized covered terrace, straddling half way. The final side is the Main Stand, seating 350 at a guess. This is rather shallow, with pillars at the front. Either side of this is the changing rooms, and the wonderful club shop (a must-visit). The ground is completed with the views over to the nearby hills.
The game was an average affair, with the visitors a division higher than the hosts. That didn't stop Invicta taking the lead in the 22nd minute when Yianni volleyed home a Free Kick. The game was fairly level after that. It was as we were leaving in the 88th minute that Hungerford saw the game return to Berkshire with an equaliser. While the game wasn't particularly special, the ground was, I'd definitely recommend.
