Citi Field - New York Mets
Citi Field was built in 2009 at a cost of $900m. Capacity is 45k including standing room and it is situated in Queens on the site of the, apparently dreadful, Shea Stadium. Again designed by the guys who did Camden.
Perhaps it is the Yankees name (the Mets will always play second fiddle to their cross town rivals), perhaps the location or perhaps it’s a hangover from Shea, but most people head to Yankee Stadium rather than venturing out to Citi Field. Take it from me, this is the better stadium, and to be honest, the train journey is not that much longer from Manhattan to Queens as it is to the Bronx.
One thing that will never change though are the Mets themselves. Think Manchester City before the money….never fail to find a way to lose. On my visit, having tied the game with a home run in the 9th, they proceeded to give up a grand slam, and the game, in extra innings. The resigned shrug from the locals said it all.
Great night out at a great Ball Park….I admit to being pleasantly surprised.
