Cercle 0-3 Club

Not the greatest night for football in Brugge. The cities' two teams were unable to even half fill the stadium they share and the football on offer was, well, everything you would expect from a team rock bottom and another still struggling to find any form. The fans that were there appeared to be slagging each other off more than encouraging their teams. I'm not sure that it was totally necessary to antagonise the home fans any more by bringing on Eider Gudjonsen (who was recently acquired from, yep, Cercle) but at least he didn't celebrate when scoring 8 minutes later. I also thought it was a bit unnecessary of Ryan Donk to plant a Club flag in the centre circle at the end, but by then, those Cercle fans that were there had left.
Club will now continue into the ECL play offs, with little or no hope of catching Anderlecht and will no doubt extend their recording breaking run of consequetive seasons in the Europa League. Cercle will be left with the best of five relegation play offs against either Beerschot or Lierse followed by relegation playoffs with the second tier if they progress. But here too there is little hope of this as, based on this performance, the taunts of the 'visiting' fans in chanting "Cercle's Given Up' rang all too true.
