Hampshire (95/3 off 15.3 overs) v Surrey (94/6 off 20 overs)
Ageas Bowl
30/06/12
The season has finally ended......
As you may have already known we run the season as the 1st July through to the 30th June. With one final day we headed down to Southampton in order to see Hants v Surrey. The Ageas Bowl was a new ground for all of us. What better way to end the season?
Opening as the Rose Bowl in 2001 it originally had a capacity of 6,500. The owners wanted to attract international cricket to the south coast, so in 2009 redevelopment started in order to bring the capacity up to 15,000 rising to 25,000 with temporary seating. This was achieved by adding two stands to either side of the pavilion. The grounds sits within grass banking and is complete with 8 permanent floodlights, as you'd expect the facilities are modern and its an enjoyable place to watch cricket.
The game was a one sided affair. Surrey decided to bat first, and they probably wish that they hadn't of. They were very quickly 9/4 halfway through the third inning. After that the result was never really in doubt, mainly because the pitch appeared to bowlers. Hampshire never really had any trouble in achieving their target. After the game we walked back to the car park. Word of warning, it takes forever to get out of, if I remember rightly it was just over an hour. Despite this it was a decent day out in a decent venue.
